Master of Science Physics
- Department of Physics is one of the prestigious departments of the college that came into existence in 2009 and introduced M.Sc Physics course in 2015. Aided by advanced technology, teaching is made more effective. The department has produced large number of post graduate students since its establishment. Department have a team of eminent professors and lecturers who work relentlessly for the success and welfare of the students and department. Department faculties have published a number of scientific papers in various international and national journals and have presented several papers in different conferences.
Department also conducts seminars, exhibitions, presentations and quiz competitions under the label of Physics Association activities. The classes are handled by eminent personalities from other renowned institutions. Also the final year students are provided with career guidance sessions by external experts.
PG Course is of two year or four semester duration leading to MSc Physics degree.16 students are admitted to this course every year. The course includes 12 theory papers, four practicals including CPP and Microprocessor programming, project and seminars.
The department has large laboratory space which includes three laboratories, general lab, electronics lab and computer lab. The students are exposed to many advanced techniques and trained in the use of sophisticated instruments. Department houses labs equipped with instruments to conduct practicals both for core and complementary papers.
Department has basic infrastructure facilities to meet the requirement for teaching and researching in various areas of Physics. Laboratories are equipped with modern instruments which allow students to conduct their projects and researches in the lab. Apart from teaching, faculties actively arrange seminars and discussion forums to improve student’s knowledge. Varied collection of Physics reference texts and periodicals are available in the library. Each student is provided with two cards for borrowing books.
Physicists have employment growth in scientific research and development services (Junior Research Fellow, Research scientist, Radiation Physicist, Research Associate, and Subject Matter Expert.etc). This course is also an eligibility criterion for those who are preparing for CSIR NET in Physics. Internship opportunities are also available for physicists. Post Graduates find positions in wide range of career areas including ISRO, VSSC, IHRD, KELTRON, and MET.etc.
A placement cell functions in the college. It looks after the placement of the outgoing final year students.
