Basical information

• Department of Biochemistry came into existence in 2000 with undergraduate course and the first ever in the university of kerala to introduce M.Sc Biochemistry course in 2005. The department has basic infrastructure facilities to meet the requirement for teaching and research in various areas of biochemistry.

Course details

The department conducts three years (6 semesters) graduation course.37 students are admitted to this course every year. The course includes 29 theory papers ( 11 core papers, 8 complimentary papers, 6 English papers and 4 language papers.) , 6 practical papers, project work and industrial visit.

Practicals

The department has a large Laboratory space which includes 3 Laboratories, General Lab –I, General Lab II and microbiology lab. The students are exposed to many advanced techniques and are trained in the use of sophisticated instruments including UV-VIS Spectrophotometer , high speed centrifuge, Laminar airflow cabinets , Microscopes, electrophoresis unit, incubators, Deep freezer, PH meter, automated pipettes etc.

Practicals

Department houses laboratories equipped with instruments to conduct practical both for core and complimentary papers

Facilities

Department has basic infrastructure facilities to meet the requirement for teaching and research in various areas of biochemistry. Varied collection of biochemistry books and periodicals are available in the library. Each student is provided with two cards for borrowing books.

Opportunities

Graduates at all level find positions in a wide range of career areas including forensics, industrial chemistry, molecular biology, pharmacology

Placements

A placement cell functions in the college. It looks after the placement of the outgoing final year students.

Admission

Pass in plus two with biology and chemistry are eligible for UG admission.
