Mangifera indica, commonly known as mango, is a species in the family Anacardiaceae, valued mainly for its fruits, both green and ripe. The mango is the national fruit of India and also known as king of fruit, mango is an irregular, egg-shaped fruit which is a fleshy drupe. Raw mangos can be used in the making of pickles and chutneys. Ripe mangos are a popular fruit throughout the world. Various parts of plant are used as a dentrifrice, antiseptic, astringent, diaphoretic, stomachic, vermifuge, tonic, laxative and diuretic and to treat diarrhea, dysentery, anaemia, asthma, bronchitis, cough, hypertension, insomnia, rheumatism, toothache, leucorrhoea, haemorrhage and piles.
