Vision of Biochemistry department is the creation of innovative and successful careers in global society through a process of imparting knowledge in the field of Biochemistry and trains them in scientific field. Our missions are excellence in teaching, a cohesive, rigorous, lab- intensive curriculum, participation in research and scholarly activities, collaboration with scientific research institution, conducting training programmes for skill development in the aspects of biochemistry.
Department of Biochemistry came into existence in 2001 with undergraduate course and first ever in the University of Kerala. M.Sc Biochemistry was further introduced in 2005. The Department has basic infrastructure facilities to meet the requirements for teaching and research in various areas of Life Science. There are seven faculty members, two lab assistance, 21 PG students and 77 UG students. We have 2 main labs with a capacity of 40 students in UG lab, 20 students in PG and a microbiology lab. Labs are well equipped with state of art instruments.
We provide high quality teaching and practical knowledge to our students. We have signed MOU with one of the leading hospital, NIMS Hospital, Neyyatinkara. UG and PG students undertakes project in various national institutes and they published their papers in National journals. Every month we conduct curriculum enrichment programme. Many reputed scientists have participated in our seminars and workshops.
We arrange industrial visit to reputed institutes like Pasteur Institute, Ooty. We motivate our students and guide them to achieve their academic goals.
Many of our students qualified NET exams and secured Government jobs. Our alumnus is working in research institutes and hospitals in different parts of the world.
