Welcome to the Department of Botany & Biotechnology

The Department of Botany and Biotechnology was started in 2005. The department offers a double major under graduate programme. From the academic year 2024-’25 as per the NEP2020 we follow the FYUGP. Being an interdisciplinary subject, the programme requires knowledge from various areas of biological as well as technological sciences. It encompasses understanding of fundamental concepts and their applications in the area of Plant anatomy, Cryptogams, Horticulture, Molecular biology, Cell Biology, Genetics, Immunology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Plant Taxonomy, Plant breeding and Bio-processing. The major specializations of the programme are stem cell technology and regenerative medicine, Molecular diagnostics, Forensic Biotechnology & Bioinformatics. The present intake capacity is 36 students. The department has four faculties with good academic profile.

In addition to the normal teaching classes and the practical training, the curriculum has integral components of Seminars, Research based project works, Gardening, Industrial visit, field study, herbarium techniques etc. targeted to shape the student’s career in accordance with the requirement of the present national and international needs. The department is in the process of developing facilities conductive for training in the field of Biotechnology. Many distinguished scientists and eminent scholars from premier research institutes such as CSIR, ICAR are invited to deliver lectures in their area of research interest from time to time. The students are exposed to both academics as well as extracurricular activities during their tenure. Students have the opportunity to opt for higher studies in Botany as well as Biotechnology and other applied sciences as Nano technology, food technology, forensic science etc
